Teens are normally very careless in their attitude and that shows off in the way they drive their cars. Hence, people should pay more attention when they see teen drivers as they don’t understand the serious consequences that can happen because of reckless driving. Recently, there have been many teen deaths in the United States and people are really concerned about the rising number of teen deaths in America. In one of the national research report by Children’s Hospital for Philadelphia and State Farm Insurance Companies it was revealed that more than 40,000 people have died last year due to reckless driving by teen drivers.
This is certainly making the news all over the United States as car crashes have been the most common reason for teen deaths in America. The report shows that more number of teens have died in America compare to number of teens dying because of cancer and suicide together. In the year 2008 more than half a million people across America lost their lives because of teen driver crashes. According to Dennis Durbin, Co-Scientific Director of the Center for Injury Research and Prevention at CHOP and co-author of the report teen driver crashes is not just about the teens that are driving the car but also about the people walking on the street. Hence, not only those who have teen drivers at home but even those who don’t have it should participate in to eliminate this problem.
The report clearly indicates that there are certain key factors that have been noticed and that will help the road safety regulators to tighten up the road safety laws for teens. The four key behavior patterns that were noticed are speeding, use of alcohol, not wearing seat belts and distractive driving. However, in 50% of the cases the teen drivers were speeding their car and had not worn their seat belts that led to their death. In 40% of the cases the drivers had positive blood alcohol level and 16% of the cases happened because of distractive driving that could be because of talking on the cell phones or talking to peers in the car.
