Rolls-Royce to supply equipment for major offshore vessel upgrade

On the Friday, 5 February 2010, Rolls-Royce, the Global leader in power systems, have just received a new order which is valued at $USD 20 million to deliver diesel generators and thrusters to Houston-based off-shore engineering and Construction Company. The order is based on, six underwater mountable azimuth thrusters, four Bergen generator sets, is ordered to be supplied as a major upgrade to the customer’s specialist offshore vessel, Derrick Barge 50 (DB50). The Pipe laying vessel and heavy-lift derrick is in the Gulf of Mexico.

Rolls-Royce has a very large experience in supplying offshore vessel designs and equipments, and their thrusters and engines are very well designed for maximum power output. They have also improved their customer support division, after their new marine service in the Gulf of Mexico area.

These 6 thrusters are designed to empower 44 tones of thrust have a variable frequency electric motor drive with a fixed pitch propeller. The new diesel engine is supposed to generate 19.2 megawatts and with the help of new thrusters, it will increase the force and electric power to DB50.
